UDOClearCode is a project to update the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). The goals of this project are to:
- Improve the organization and navigability of the UDO document;
Make the UDO more user-friendly by adding graphics and using plain language,
Remove repetitive language and redundancy in regulations;
Address conflicting regulations;
Identify revisions needed to comply with recent changes to state and federal law; and
Identify opportunities for the City and County to apply best management practices.
UDOClearCode is not a project to make substantive changes to the UDO. Rather, it is an effort to make the UDO more clear, consistent, and easy to use for citizens, developers, investors, elected officials, and staff.
The first stage of UDOClearCode is the development of a Code Assessment, a document that analyzes the current UDO and makes recommendations for improvements. The Code Assessment is expected to be complete by mid-2018. Following adoption of the Code Assessment, the project will enter the next stage, which will involve making the recommended changes to the UDO.
This website is the best place to find updated documents as they are produced and to learn about upcoming UDOClearCode events and public engagement opportunities.
